Justin Tarka advises multinational employers, particularly US-headquartered technology businesses and other global companies, on UK and cross-border employment law. He brings an in-house perspective to that advice, having served on secondment from the firm as global head of employment law for a US-headquartered IT company. His previous experience also includes working at the United Nations.
In-house legal and HR teams use Justin as a single point of contact for matters that span several jurisdictions. He gives practical, commercially focused advice, sets the strategy for multi-country matters, and brings the position across jurisdictions together so that clients receive clear, consistent recommendations and advice on next steps. He leads matters with a London-based team and works closely with colleagues across the firm’s US and international offices. His work includes global redundancy programmes, the employment aspects of cross-border mergers and acquisitions, senior executive exits, and the enforcement of restrictive covenants. He also defends employers in Employment Tribunal and High Court proceedings, and is often instructed where a dispute runs alongside an internal investigation or a wider restructuring.
Justin has particular experience in workplace data privacy and security, and advises on AI governance and the use of AI and monitoring technology in employment decisions. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E) and helps US employers align their workforce AI and data practices across the EU, the UK and the United States, including under the EU AI Act.
Justin speaks and writes regularly on AI regulation, cross-border compliance and workforce data privacy. He serves on the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee and is a trustee of, and legal adviser to, the Army Cadets Charitable Trust UK. The Trust supports training and leadership development for around 40,000 young people aged 12 to 18.
